Tottenham-born Jarelle Francis has been selected by Green Party members as the candidate for Enfield and Haringey in the 2020 London Assembly elections.

Jarelle, 33, is a young entrepreneur who has previously run his own business, and currently works as an independent art curator, with a focus on making arts and culture more accessible to young people, and communities outside the traditional art world. He lives in Wood Green, and also stood as the Green Party’s general election candidate for Tottenham in 2017.

Jarelle says:

"I'm hugely proud to come from this exciting and diverse area of London - but I'm even more passionate about making it better. Haringey and Enfield need a fresh voice on the Assembly to represent them. If elected, I promise to work hard to tackle some of the biggest problems facing our two boroughs - unsafe levels of air pollution, threats to our beautiful green spaces, cuts to youth services which has led to the rise in crime against young people and a lack of genuinely affordable housing which has seen a leap in homelessness.”

Ronald Stewart, chair of Haringey Green Party, said:

“People have told us they're tired of politicians who take votes for granted. Jarelle Francis listens to local people and is committed to improving our community. In May 2020, people in Enfield and Haringey will have the chance to vote for a fresh Green perspective, not just the business-as-usual politics that’s failing many local communities.”

There are currently two Greens elected to the London Assembly, Sian Berry and Caroline Russell. During the last two years, they've spearheaded significant initiatives to improve Londoners’ lives such as securing £45 million in extra funding for youth services and pushing for major investment in walking and cycling across the capital.

In the 2016 London elections, the Green Party came in third place in the mayoral vote, and won 9% of the constituency vote across the capital, making them London’s third party. In 2020, the Green Party are confident that they can increase their Assembly Member seats.
